Branson Star Climbing The Charts and Helping Veterans Longtime Branson favorite Tim Hadler, star of From Hank to Tim Hadler: Music through the Decades and locally famous for his tribute to Hank Williams—has been a little scarce of late, and for good reasons. Tim has been on the road, after recording Down by the Railroad Tracks in Nashville and trying to keep up with all his personal appearances after the song reached #7 on the charts. Tim followed up that hit recently with his latest single “One plus One”. When he lands back in town from time to time, we can catch him at The Historic Owen Theatre &, House of Comedy downtown. As we learn quickly, Tim’s career is dedicated to an awesome cause. He and his wife Angela have thrown their hearts and souls into Camp G.U.M.I. USA (an acronym for “Glad You Made It”) their Ozarks retreat center established to be a healing home for American veterans. The vision for the camp is “to see US Veterans flourish in society as civilians and realize their potential with hope and motivation for the future.” The camp opened in the mountains outside Branson this past Memorial Day of 2015. Angela serves as the camp administrator, bringing to it her background in nursing and her master’s degree in Human Behavior, which helps her better understand the struggles veterans face. Angela and her staff at the camp strive to equip, strengthen and encourage US Veterans with the educational, emotional and spiritual resources to understand and overcome deployment related issues through personal reflective and group activities in a serene working ranch setting. American Idol Contender 2015! Local Branson star Ellen Petersen made it to Hollywood! The 22 year-old singer/banjo picker received her “golden ticket” on TV’s American Idol and especially dazzled judges Harry Connick Jr and Keith Urban, who asked Ellen to play “Ballad of Jed Clampett”, then joined her for a sing-along! Unfortunately, (and we think “unbelievably”), Ellen was eventually eliminated in the final rounds. Ellen stars locally in The Petersen Family Bluegrass band which plays Sundays at Branson’s Little Opry Theatre, (inside The IMAX™ Entertainment Complex). Ellen and family offer great bluegrass, contemporary hits and plenty of heart-stirring Gospel! About her American Idol adventure, Ellen posted these thoughts on her Facebook page, “My American Idol journey ended at Final Judgment. It was an amazing experience and I am so thankful I had this opportunity. When they informed me I wasn’t advancing I was filled with peace and hope because I knew God had something different and better for me. Better may not mean more money or fame, but it does mean a life spent growing closer to Him and glorifying Him with the gifts He has given me. Thank you to everyone for believing in me and encouraging me! It meant more to me than you will ever know!” That’s our girl! petersenband.com BransonImax.com Tickets: 417-335-4832

Dinner With Yakov is Back! Famous Russian comedian Yakov Smirnoff has somehow found time to return to Branson for the fall of 2015 after dividing his time between teaching, doing personal appearances and working on a TV pilot. The premise of Yakov’s TV pilot is based on his tenure as a professor at Missouri State University. Working on his show, Yakov has gotten some helpful insight from old buddies Jerry Seinfeld and Ray Romano. Even if the TV pilot gets picked up, Yakov assures us he will still return to good ol’ Branson to perform. Talking about his TV show, Yakov says, “I believe I have something important to say and people need to hear it, in Hollywood more than here, so God works in mysterious ways.”

Dr. Jimmy Osmond! Jimmy Osmond, star of the legendary Osmonds, (who headline “The Hits” at The Andy Williams Moon River Theatre this year) has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Arts and Humanities from Iowa Wesleyan College. Besides starring in Branson, Jimmy’s illustrious career includes managing The Moon River Theater, and assuming stellar roles as singer, actor, businessman and humanitarian. Says Iowa Wesleyan president Steve Titus, “We chose Jimmy to receive this honorary doctorate because in addition to being a lifelong innovator and entrepreneur, Jimmy has leveraged his fame and success to help create a kinder and more humane world. He is a servant of deep faith, a faith committed to human welfare and social justice.” Jimmy’s charity work includes his work with the Children’s Miracle Network, the organization his mother started as The Osmond Foundation in the early 80s.

Autumn in the Ozarks Autumn in the Ozarks attracts a large following. The mountains are painted colorfully with the changing leaves, the hills and valleys are cooled by longer shadows and gentle breezes, and all are so inviting for a walk, a lake cruise, or a bicycle ride. After Labor Day, the town begins a transformation. Now you see cornstalks and pumpkins and scarecrows on every corner, as the old traditions of the harvest are celebrated in Branson’s fall festivals. Now come the crafters, antiquers and music-makers for all the town’s fall festivals. And the Branson strip lights up with a whole new lineup of headliners for the fall show season.

It’s a time to relax, smell the potpourri, have a mug of hot apple cider, try some barbecued ribs or “taters” cooked over an open fire. It’s a time to spend a misty morning golfing in the mountains, or an afternoon shopping at the outlet malls. Later, it’s a wonderful time to head to the lake, then kick back and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of a sunset cruise! It’s a time to honor the veterans by bringing them to join the rest of America’s heroes
in Branson’s week-long Veterans Homecoming, the nation’s largest Veterans Day celebration. It’s a time to be refreshed and uplifted by the very best live entertainment in he world! Autumn in the Ozarks, a celebration of good
times that for many, remains the very best of times.
